Antelope Valley Station

The Antelope Valley Station's two units, each rated at 450 megawatts, began commercial operation in 1984 and 1986, respectively. The power plant was built for $1.9 billion.

Because of its location next to a lignite coal mine (The Coteau Properties Company's Freedom Mine) from which it receives its fuel, Antelope Valley Station is referred to as a "mine-mouth" facility.

Antelope Valley is part of an energy complex that includes the Great Plains Synfuels Plant and the Freedom Mine. A majority of Antelope Valley Station's fuel supply is provided by the Great Plains Synfuels Plant in the form of lignite fines - particles of coal too small for use in the gasification process.  (https://www.basinelectric.com/about-us/Generation/index?location=antelopevalleystation)
